THE BRISTOL HOTEL SAN DIEGO ANNOUNCES COMPLETION OF GUESTROOM RENOVATION
1960's-inspired design pays homage to building's architectural and cultural history
SAN FRANCISCO, CA (July 20, 2018) - Greystone Hotels, owner and operator of a collection of boutique hotels, announces the completion of a $7 million renovation of The Bristol Hotel. The multiphase project involved the remodel of the pre-existing 102 guest rooms and bathrooms together with conversion of the top floor meeting and event space into 12 news rooms and suites to create a 114-room hotel, with a brand new state-of-the-art fitness center located on the top floor. The hotel also instituted a complimentary expanded continental breakfast in the former restaurant space on the ground floor just off the lobby, which is also convertible into meeting space.
"Drawing on The Bristol's 1960s vintage architecture, the new design reflects the vibrant San Diego contemporary art and music scene of the 1960s, combining these retro features with all the modern conveniences that today's travelers have come to expect," said Eric Horodas, President of Greystone Hotels. "The 1960s offered a host of iconic moments—in music, art, politics, space travel, and more."
Developed by Boston-based design firm Perkins + Will, the new décor features modern furnishings and a mid-century aesthetic with a neutral color palette accented with bright pops of color. Playful art by Lichtenstein and Warhol and accents honoring The Beatles create an overarching connection to the cool and funky lifestyle of the 1960s that feels right at home in San Diego. Rooms and suites feature flat-screen televisions with media hubs, allowing guests to stream content from their personal devices. Guests in select rooms can enjoy a vintage record player and authentic vinyl records from the ‘60s. Guest bathrooms boast a high end residential finish including spacious showers with rainfall shower heads, luxurious bathrobes, and eco-friendly bath amenities. Eye-catching yellow doors adorn the hallways of the hotel, while a variety of cardio machines, weight lifting equipment, and TRX systems fill the new top-floor fitness center.
The three suites, located on the ninth floor of the hotel, are each modeled after a landmark year during the 1960s. The first is oriented around 1961 and the inauguration of John F. Kennedy, including iconic images of the president, coffee table books about his life and political career, and vinyl records from that year. The second suite marks the cultural phenomenon surrounding The Beatles—specifically their 1965 concert at San Diego's Balboa Stadium—and features the group's famous Abbey Road photograph, and vinyl records of The Beatles greatest hits. The third suite was designed to commemorate the 1969 Apollo 11 moon landing, displaying the iconic photograph of Buzz Aldrin on the moon, including books about the historic milestone, and rounding out the impressive decade by celebrating this "giant leap for mankind". All guest rooms feature an accent pillow in the likeness of the 1965 Balboa Stadium concert ticket.
Located at 1055 First Avenue, The Bristol is situated in the heart of downtown San Diego just minutes from the famous Gaslamp Quarter, scenic waterfront, and San Diego Convention Center. The hotel offers guests a warm and welcoming experience with impeccable service and attention to detail, complete with pet-friendly accommodations, convenient valet parking, an on-site bar and lounge, and complimentary wireless Internet access.
