The Empress Hotel of La Jolla (CA) Completes $1.9 Million Renovation

La Jolla, CA, September 15, 2015 - Eric Horodas, President of Greystone Hotels ( announces the completion of a $1.9 million renovation of The Empress Hotel in La Jolla, CA ( The project is the most recent Greystone property to wrap-up a year-long renovation as part of a multi-million dollar, portfolio-wide strategic initiative. Located just one block from the beach, the "top to bottom" revamp project was completed in 6 stages over the course of 12 months.

Highlights of the renovation include:

  • Interior décor touches evocative of La Jolla including new furniture, wallpaper, carpeting, window shutters and lighting in all guest rooms and suites as well as specialty in-room amenities to match the beach inspired décor;
  • Local art work featuring 360 individual photos of the local La Jolla beaches taken by local photographer, Aaron Goulding;
  • New wallpaper, art work, carpet, lighting, and signage;
  • Completely updated elevators with "smart control systems" as well as upgraded and modernized heating and air conditioning systems;
  • Renovated second floor patio perfect for enjoying breakfast outdoors or for hosting your next private event;
  • Meeting rooms with state-of-the-art wall mounted big screen televisions, wireless HD connectivity (for laptops and media hubs), while taking on completely new colors, ceiling lighting and wall paper;

Originally built in 1969 and renamed The Ellingson Court Hotel in 1978, The Empress Hotel took on its current name in 1984, and joined the Greystone family of independent West Coast boutique hotels in 2013. The 5-floor, 73-room renovation was designed by Jen Garramone (JMG Design Studio), Irvine, CA.
